Our institute belongs to the area of Natural Resources, and it develops scientific and technical research in the framework of the CSIC's Strategic Line «Global Change». Our tasks focus on the ocean and its coastline, which encompasses the islands as a fundamental part.

The research activities at IMEDEA are structured into Research Groups, but our researchers are actively involved in the International Laboratory on Global Change (LINC Global) and in the Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System of the Balearic Islands (SOCIB). In addition, the activity of our researchers during these years has led to founding Albatros Marine Technolgies , a spin-off company devoted to the development of instrumentation for marine research.
