Laboratory of Environmental Molecular Biology

The main purpose of the Biological Molecular Laboratory is to support the different research lines carried out by scientist in our institute.

This laboratory is equipped with the technical resources necessary to develop the basic molecular biology protocols.

The study of nucleics acids (DNA and RNA) is our essential work, although working whit proteins is possible too.

Some routine analyses performed:

DNA / RNA extraction quantification and purification

Nucleics acids extraction from different organisms (bacteria, yeast, fungi, animals, plants) and origins like environmental samples (soils, sea water, sediments, salterns..) and pure cultures

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

DNA-DNA Hybridization

Electrophoresis Techniques

Gel preparation (agarose, acrylamide). Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE), Temperature gradient Gel Electrophoresis (TGGE), Denaturing Gradient Gel electrophoresis (DGGE), Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE).

Gel documentation and analysis system for fluorescence, chemiluminescence and proteomics applications.
