The protologues of the taxa Balneolales ord. nov. and Rhodothermales ord. nov., mistakenly assigned a nomenclatural type family to each new order whereas rule 15 of the International code of nomenclature of prokaryotes [1] stipulates that the nomenclatural type of an order must be a genus. At the same time, the protologue of the order Chitinophagales was ambiguous on the nomenclatural type being a genus or a family.

Therefore, the authors would like to amend the nomenclatural types of these three orders to the genera Balneola (type to Baneolales ord. nov.), Rhodothermus (type to Rhodothermales ord. nov.) and Chitinophaga (type to Chitinophagales ord. nov.).

The authors apologize to A. Oren who highlighted this mistake prior to submission but the changes were not effectively done.
